We at Billy Hyde Music are proud of our comprehensive brass and woodwind repair facility. Our expert repair technicians have many years of training and experience in the repair and maintenance of all wind instruments. With our well equipped workshop and stocked with an extensive inventory of spare parts, we can ensure that your instrument works with you, not against you!

We can service and repair all wind instruments from Tubas through to Piccolos.

We provide in house warranty back up for all the instruments we sell, are happy to advise you on the selection, care, and maintenance of your instrument.

Personnel Profiles

Jim Beringer
Jim has been working in the industry since 1978, and is well known to many musicians across Australia for his abilities as a repair technician. He was trained in Band Instrument Repair at Western Iowa Technical College and worked in a repair shop in the U.S.A. before moving to Melbourne and establishing his own repair shop in South Melbourne in 1981. Over the years he has trained a number of people in the art of instrument repair. He joined Billy Hyde Music in 2005 and worked in the Canterbury store until it was incorporated into the Blackburn store in 2007.

Daniel Bogemann
Daniel came to us from Holland where he was a professional tuba player for the Royal Dutch Marine Band. His interest in instrument repair led him to do an apprenticeship at Billy Hyde's. He has shown himself to be an exceptionally talented repairer and we are proud to have him on our team.

Our guitar repairer specialises in electric, acoustic and bass guitars and is on site Tuesday to Saturday.

Our inhouse woodwind and brass specialist & repairer, Gabriel Vatavu was trained as a technician back in his home country Romania. He was taught and worked for one of the finest musical repairers in Europe. Backed by 10 years experience in the musical repairs field, as well as being himself a professional musician, he understands that in order to deliver great music you need an instrument in great working condition. He offers our customers a state of the art service. He is the favourite technician for many professional players, University Teachers, Queensland based as well as interstate.

Gabriel is also available for any advice regarding saxophone and clarinet mouthpieces and mouthpiece refacing/reconditioning, new and vintage saxophones, set-ups and evaluations.

Kevin Nitrovane is one of Australia’s most highly respected luthiers - Hank Marvin and Mark McEntee from Divinyls, among many others, rely on Kevin to keep their guitars in top playing order. Now Kevin will be instore here at Billy Hyde Music in North Perth on Saturdays between 2.30pm and 3.30pm to collect repairs and also talk through with you any intricate repairs, setups or crazy mods that you can dream up! He’s the guitar equivalent of Pulp Fiction’s Mr Wolf and he’s here to help!
