Meet our teachers

We are very proud of our talented teaching staff at Billy Hyde Academy. Not only do our staff teach, many are also performing musicians, songwritters, recording and touring artists.

As you'll see below, our teachers have the experience and enthusiasm to guide and inspire you on your musical journey.

Adrian White Adrian White - Guitar

Adrian is a passionate guitar player and thoroughly enjoys teaching such a challenging and exciting instrument to those who want to learn. He has been playing for nearly fifteen years despite only being 21. Playing in school bands, performing alongside his uncle and established comedian Gabriel Rossi and hours spent learning songs by ear filled his teenage years before he finished VCE music to go on to complete a two year course at NMIT, where he developed his hobby into a profession.

Adrian's writes, sings and plays guitar for his original outfit, the Vaudevillains - one of Australia's most well known 'Psychobilly' bands who are fast becoming a growing success in the alternative scenes throughout the country, with attention beginning to sprout up from places all over the world.

Anthony Kapolitsas Anthony Kapolitsas - Violin and Bass Guitar

Anthony has been playing the bass guitar for over 5 years and the violin for over 12 years. Throughout his musical career he has performed with orchestras, jazz ensembles, rock groups, and has even done session work in several musicals. Having performed at different venues all over Melbourne, from local pubs, to the Melbourne concert hall, Anthony is no stranger to the stage.

He holds an AMEB grade 7 in the violin and a Certificate IV in Music Performance in bass, and is currently studying an Advanced Diploma at NMIT, Greensborough.

Anthony has been teaching for over 2 years, and can be seen every Friday night at Father Flanagan's in Collingwood with his cover band, Recovery.

Carlie Mills Carlie Mills - Vocals

Carlie is a professional singer and fully qualified singing teacher with 8 years of teaching experience. All age, styles and experience levels are catered for, from contemporary, musical theatre, jazz and classical. Carlie is VIT registered and can offer lessons for VCE Music subjects and AMEB exam preparation. Lessons are fun, well structured and work to meet each student's ambitions & needs.

Carlie holds a Bachelor of Arts/Communications in Theatre & Media (Majoring in Vocal Direction, Performance and Education) - CSU, NSW, an Advanced Diploma in Contemporary Music & Jazz (Voice Major) - NMIT, Greensborough and is currently completing a Bachelor of Australian Popular Music (Voice Major) through NMIT, Fairfield. She is currently in 3 working bands - Honey Chile' - (events & corporate), Mahogany Soul - (Nu-soul, Pop, Funk & RnB), and Me & Mine - jazz three piece.

Christian Nativo Christian Nativo - Guitar

As one of Melbourne's most sought after session and freelance drummers, Christian draws his talents from bands such as Metallica right through to On The Virg.

His metal/fusion influences give him his signature sound of power, dynamics and attitude.

Christian started playing drums in 1998 and since then has toured Australia, New Zealand and Europe, shared the stage with some of the best including English speed metalers Dragonforce, guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani, German power metal gods Helloween, European melodic power metal legends Sonata Arctica and the world's greatest metal band Iron Maiden.

Christian is a drummer of all styles and genres of music ranging from jazz quartets to funk bands right through to extreme heavy metal, and everything in between.

Iain Archibald Iain Archibald - Guitar

Iain is versatile in all types of guitars including electric, acoustic, 12-string & slide. He has a Bachelor in Entertainment Degree (Popular Music & Performance) and has performed as a lead guitarist and backing vocalist at many of Melbourne's leading venues over the past few years!

Iain's versatility defies his age. Many other guitarists of his calibre have been classified as season veterans. His ability to work as a single acoustic guitarist whilst still creating a full sound has made him rather sort after in the past three years.

Kevin Spencer Kevin Spencer - Guitar

A new addition to the Billy Hyde Academy, Kevin has been a musician for almost twenty years and has many years experience in teaching guitar lessons of all styles to all ages.

Having first picked up a battered old guitar at age eight or nine, Kevin recalls that while his friends were all playing video games, he would curiously twang and pluck at the guitar for hours just to amuse himself, discovering new and interesting sounds.

A blues guitarist and songwriter at heart, Kevin has had the opportunity to work with some brilliant musicians across all genres from jazz & blues to rock.

His teaching methods are simple - 'praise, humour, enthusiasm & patience'.
Kevin's moto: "MUSIC IS AN ART, TEACHING IS MY PLEASURE"

Kyle Robertson Kyle Robertson - Guitar

Kyle has been a guitar teacher at Billy Hyde since 2006. He teaches all styles of guitar, from beginner to advanced levels.

Kyle is able to teach AMEB grades in both classical & contemporary rock and is also well versed in preparing students for University and TAFE music course auditions!

Kyle has toured Australia has played live on television and radio. He is currently working in two bands, duke box (covers) and equinox (originals).

Linden Lester Linden Lester - Guitar & Bass Guitar

Linden has several years experience in live performance and has been a part of the National and International Festival Circuit for the past few years. He has performed with the likes of Morph, Aurora Jane and Massive Change at International Festivals including Boom Festival (Portugal), Pflaster-Spektakel (Austria), Edinburgh Fringe Festival (Scotland), along with many shows throughout the UK and India.

Locally, he has appeared at festivals including Woodford Folk Festival, Peats Ridge, Folk, Rhythm & Life.

He has toured as a musician/performer with Circus Monoxide, during 98-99 and has performed at the iconic Sydney Opera House as part of Encore 97.

Linden has a Bachelor of Contemporary Music (1998-2001) and a Graduate Diploma of Education (2001).

Rob Brens Rob Brens - Drums

Rob's love of drums was realized at the age of 11. He has since learned from some of the world's finest musicians including David Jones, Sam Aliano, Andrew Gander, Robi Parolin, Tony Floyd, and many many more.

Rob has completed a Bachelor in Music Performance with recognition in special achievement and has found himself playing in a variety of original bands including Tribal Clown and Skarlet Blue.

He has supported the likes of Diesel and in his current outfit, Alarum, has performed alongside some of the finest metal bands on the circuit including Testament, Lamb of God, Obituary, Armoured Saint and Death Angel.

Rob has performed at Holland's famous Prog Power festival which featured bands such as Cynic and Zero Hour.

He can be found performing weekly with Melbourne cover band Moneypenny, all the while preparing for Alarum's latest release Natural Causes.

Ryan Berg Ryan Berg - Drums

BergR started playing drums in school bands around the age of 15 and went on to study under the guidance of well respected industry leaders Frank Corniola, Tony Floyd & Dave Sanders.

Currently based in Melbourne, he has been writing, recording & touring the Australian landscape with various acts for the previous three yrs. (Symbiosis).

During his time with Symbiosis, BergR has warmed the stage for an impressive list of top acts including The Cat Empire, Hoodoo Gurus & Resin Dogs. He has played at major Australian Music Festivals, such as Pyramid & Woodford, headlined numerous national tours and can be seen round town at well known venues such as the Espy, Corner Hotel.

Some career highlights for BergR include playing for Al Gore and his Climate Change delegates at the Victorian State Library, to rocking large and small scale gigs, and donating time to charity's such as Make Poverty History.

He maintains a busy teaching schedule at both Billy Hyde Greensborough & Somerton Academies and is consistently involved in gigs and recording sessions.
